Smart DBUS Expansion Modules (DM Series)
High-density I/O expansion modules with RS485 communication for distributed data acquisition. Ideal for digital I/O, analog signals, and temperature measurement across multiple nodes.
- Distributed remote I/O via RS485
- Multi-point temperature monitoring
- High-channel analog acquisition
- Long-distance wiring reduction
Usage Guide (How to Use Smart DBUS Modules)
Smart DBUS (DM Series) modules are designed for distributed I/O acquisition via RS485. This guide explains typical wiring, addressing, and commissioning steps for Modbus RTU networks.
- Use RS485 daisy-chain topology (avoid star wiring).
- Plan each node’s I/O type: DI/DO, AI/AO, Temperature, or Mixed.
- Reserve unique Modbus slave IDs for each module.
- Connect A(+), B(-), GND according to your RS485 standard.
- Use twisted-pair cable; keep polarity consistent across all nodes.
- Add 120Ω termination at the first and last device on the bus.
- Keep the shield grounded properly to reduce noise.
- Provide stable 24VDC power to each module.
- Digital outputs: relay DO for universal loads.
- Analog inputs: verify whether the model supports V/I or current-only.
- Temperature: match sensor type (PT100 / NTC / Type K).
Commissioning Steps
- Power on the module and confirm status indicators.
- Set Modbus parameters: Slave ID, baud rate, parity, stop bits.
- From the master (PLC / gateway), read basic registers to confirm communication.
- Verify each channel using real signals (DI/DO/AI/AO/Temp).
- Lock the configuration and label each node (ID + location).
Common Troubleshooting
- No response: check A/B polarity, slave ID conflicts, baud rate mismatch.
- Unstable data: improve grounding/shielding and add termination.
- Analog reading wrong: confirm signal type (V or mA) and wiring.
- Temperature errors: verify sensor type and wiring (PT100/NTC/TC).

How to Choose a DM Module
- Digital I/O: DE = Digital Inputs, QR = Relay Outputs, DR = Mixed DI/Relay DO.
- Analog: AE = Analog Inputs, AQ = Analog Outputs, AM = Combined AI + AO.
- Temperature: AR = PT100 (RTD), AE-NTC = NTC (10K 3950), AT = Type K thermocouple.
- Current-only Inputs: Some high-density AE/AM models are current-only (as noted in descriptions).
